bye bye korea

it seems my time in korea is already coming to a close! wow i can’t believe the time has already come. However, I am super excited to come back. I’ll be spending some time in vancouver before I come back to toronto though to visit my friend jenn :)
Here are some shots I took while frolicking around seoul.

A foggy day

off on a family trip.
finally all of us together all four of us plus a new member. my brothers wife :)
originally we planned on going skiing but all of a sudden the weather warmed up and today it started pouring. hahah. not ideal snow conditions. However! I got to see some beautiful scenery on our drive up. Check it out.

this is my dad, he’s got the kimchi squat down! :)

just me

today i took a walk with my mum outside along the rice fields. i needed some pictures of myself hahahaha!
i have such few pictures of myself sometimes I worry that i am deteriorating from this world and there will be no evidence of my existence and the police won’t believe that i am in fact geehae jeong. well….maybe not to that degree but you get my meaning.  So today I was the model and my MUM was the photographer! hahaaha
It was actually pretty fun because I was able to learn a couple things. Being a model helped me understand first of all what it feels like to be on the other end and also understand what how a slight turn of the head or body can significantly make or break a shot. That it’s not all about changing locations for variety but it’s also about helping your subjects feel comfortable and loose. When your subject is feeling comfortable you can get sooo much more out of one scene. I realized this because I’m totally comfortable in front of my mum. I didn’t feel self conscious or shy so it turned out great!

Claudia + Wilson’s 2nd Reception

Oh yea, i forgot to post some pictures from Claudia + Wilson’s second wedding reception in Toronto. They were married in Dominican Republic earlier this year in January…oh wait no they weren’t. They were officially married last year… anyways it’s been quite the long affair :p but it’s over now. Claudia likes to do things a little backwards hehehehe. So to be fair on the rest of her family and friends back in Toronto she had a chinese banquet. Did the whole tea ceremony and the 394 course dinner etc… I’m just so thankful to God that I have become such close friends with Claudia and even getting to know her extended family. They’re such a great bunch! Here are some random shots from the day.

and finally…alex!! the man who introduced me to claudia. Thanks Alex!

Korea Randoms #02

I’m almost halfway through my trip to the homeland and I miss Toronto. Which would I classify as my “home”. I would say Toronto. I’ve come to really love Toronto and it’s multicultural colouring. I can’t believe I’ve already been living there for 10 years!!!! Time does fly. I love how I can eat whatever I want whether it’s indian or thai or ethiopian or chinese. I love food. Toronto is such a good home base. The people are friendly and the weather…well…we’ll leave the weather out of it. hahahha. Besides the fact that winters are friggin freeeezing and loooong it’s quite charming when you get out of the city.

So what have I been doing with my time here? Well relaxing. I’m relaxing cause I know this summer is going to be CRAZY. With all the weddings i’m shooting in toronto I’m going to have my hands full. I’ve also made a larger commitment to working out… and i must say that my ass hurts right now, lunges can do that to you hahaha. Oh dear, people are reading this. ok… if you’re visiting my blog to check out what kind of photographer I am…I’m really quite a normal person hahahha.
And to close this entry here’s a very blurry unfocused photo of me…taken by my sister in law after which she remarked that she is quite good! lol

Thoughts.

So a friend recently gave me the whole 4th season of So You Think You Can Dance. I started watching it right before I left toronto…then continued to watch on my friggin loooong flight and i’m finishing it right now in the homeland. WOW! SYTYCD is SUCH an awesome show! Not only does it display amazing talent but there’s so much one can learn as an artist. That’s right! I learned so many amazing lessons through the show. I realized through the show that talent isn’t everything. During the early episodes this amazing dancer came to audition and he was an amazing dancer….but he was soooo full of himself and had an attitude. He didn’t get picked. I was surprised but it makes sense. If i was a photographer just so full of myself with enough pride for a nation then who would want to work with me? Here are some things I learned:
- have a great attitude
- receive constructive criticism well
- polish technique but more importantly pump out honest work. If people can’t connect with my photos then I’ve failed as a photographer boohoo

anyways, on a side note I needed an agenda so i went out and got myself the perfect one. I love agendas…too bad you only need only one per year. I also got the cutest stamp! It’s a jar! LOL i don’t know why I think it’s so awesome. Maybe because it’s not the conventional pretty + girly stamp… There’s a lot of awesome stationary in korea and it’s hard to resist them.
